In this Coaching Bootroom, John Griffiths, Head Coach of England Women’s U17s football team shares some insights into his approach to coaching. John walks us through his journey as coach, his coaching philosophy and how its evolved, along with who has significantly influenced him. Listen out for how John’s experience with FC Barcelona has left a lasting mark on him and his philosophy, and his approach to coaching, culture and player development.

John also talks about how he endeavours to create learning environments by knowing his players, individualising his coaching and prioritising problem solving. Talking Talent: Selection for the Big Event

In this Talking Talent, Emma Mitchell from the EIS shares her insights on selection and the management of players during this team transition.  Emma shares her experiences from three Olympic cycles working with the GB Hockey team coaches and players highlighting what she sees as the key aspects of a quality selection process along with approaches to manage non-selection and in particular, travelling reserves, those selected but who are not likely to play.  She highlights the importance of thoughtful planning and managing athlete expectations as well as how both the Men’s and Women’s teams took slightly different approaches based upon players’ needs.  Emma also shares how she has seen the coaches, through experience, grow, adapt and change in their approach to selection for big events.
