Bruce: Inspire Programme Helped Planning

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

Shooting coach Sinclair Bruce told how the Inspire Coach Development programme has helped him after seeing shooter Jennifer McIntosh win silver at the Commonwealth Games.

The  23-year-old Edinburgh-born shooter won her medal in the, 50m Rifle Three Positions category.

Sinclair said: “The Inspire Programme has helped enormously in the area of planning, and specifically in terms of tapering properly for a highly skill-based sport like shooting.

“This was an area where I did not have much previous knowledge and certainly no science behind that limited knowledge. The work with Istvan Balyi was extremely interesting and informative in that respect.

“Having applied the principles within my environment recently hopefully it helped my athletes perform to the best of their abilities in the Games.”

sports coach UK, supported by the HCSCs, managed the Inspire Programme. The Programme was developed for coaches who had athletes with the potential to medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Funding for the programme was provided by UK Sport.
