Coaching in the UK

Coaches to encourage others to join nationwide running event

Mon, 14 Aug 2017

A day of mass participation running has been organised to bookend a summer of athletics.

Following the IPC and IAAF 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, The National Lottery, UK Sport and parkrun UK are inviting the nation to join Britain’s top athletes at #teamparkrun events across the UK on the 19 August.

Backed by the British Olympic and Paralympic Associations and the Home Country Sports Councils, the aim of the events is to encourage more people into sport and physical activity; capitalising on the success of last year’s I am Team GB and I am Paralympics GB events, which inspired nearly 1million people to take part in a nationwide sports day.

National Lottery-funded athletes from across various Olympic and Paralympic sports will be acting as volunteer Tail Walkers on the day, ensuring no one finishes last.

In order to make a success of the campaign, UK Coaching is encouraging those who already run or coach to give their friends, families and participants a nudge to join in with #teamparkrun.

Participants can walk, jog, run or volunteer on the day.
