Wed, 03 Aug 2011

Sally Gunnell, 400 metre hurdles gold medal winner at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, has become an ambassador for the John Lewis Partnership’s Partners in Sport Scheme.

The role will see Gunnell make appearances in stores and deliver motivational talks to staff.

Simon Wardell, development manager for Partners in Sport, said: "Not only will Sally be promoting the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle across the business, she’ll also be spending time with Partners to explain how they can transfer the skills they have learnt during the coaching qualification, back into their day-to-day roles.”

The Partners in Sport Programme has three key strands. They are:

  • Coaching in Sport - Partner Coaching Programme
  • Discovering Sport- Branch Bids
  • Succeeding in Sport- Supporting Competitive Partners

sports coach UK manages the Coaching in Sport - Partner Coaching Programme.

The objectives of the Programme are:

  • To offer Partners the opportunity to become active, qualified coaches, with new skills which can be used in the community.
  • To offer Partners transferable coaching skills that can be applied in the workplace.
  • Contribute to Government targets of increasing the number of skilled, active and qualified coaches in the UK, from grass roots up to elite level.
