Coaching in the UK

More Success for Triathlon Duo

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

The astonishing double act of gold and silver medals for triathletes Alastair and Jonny Brownlee at the 2014 Commonwealth Games marks the continuing success of coaches Malcolm Brown and Jack Maitland. The Leeds-based coaches were recognised for their work at the 2012 UK Coaching Awards where, together with Charles Lines, Tony Kingham and Corinne Tantrum, they won the coveted Coaching Chain award. This award acknowledges the fact that the success of most elite athletes is not due to the work of a single coach, but of a succession of people who have all played a role through the athlete’s development since starting out in the sport.

These medals come within a week of further success for another former UK Coaching Awards winner, as Rory McIlroy’s coach Michael Bannon was a winner in the High Performance Coach of the Year category in 2012. This year’s Awards are again supported by Gillette and nominations are now open in categories covering everything from community coaching to coaching disabled athletes.
