National Occupational Standards Review for Coaching 2013

Mon, 17 Jun 2013

sports coach UK, in partnership with SkillsActive, is leading the review work on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Coaching.

These standards help clarify what coaches are expected to know and do in their coaching roles.  This work alsoinvolves creating an Occupational/Functional map of the coaching industry. This is the first time acombined Occupational and Functional map, which is standard in other industries, has been created for coaching.

The NOS need to be reviewed to ensure they are fit for purpose for the coaching industry.  Whilst on the whole the existing NOS are a very good base, the recommendation for coaching is that the NOS need to be broader in their scope to take account of the range of environments coaches now find themselves in.

NOS content is being reviewed by partners such as governing bodies of sport, Compass, afPE and other employers. It is important that all who are involved with the employment and deployment of coaches have the opportunity to comment, feedback and shape any changes. This feedback opportunity will be provided in the form of face-to-face meetings in each Home Country (see below) and the opportunity to complete a web-based survey that will be available from July through to September.
