Coaching in the UK

Recognise your coach’s work: Nominate them for an Award

Mon, 01 Sep 2014

To celebrate a very special year of sport for Scotland, the 2014 UK Coaching Awards supported by Gillette will be held in the City Chambers, Glasgow on 19 November. The Awards honour sports coaches and coaching organisations who have demonstrated outstanding success over the previous 12 months, from the grassroots through to the elite level of sporting achievement.

Since the awards launched in 1998  there has been a steady rise in the number of women nominated for coaching awards. In 2014 we have seen some great success in women’s sport. To help maintain that momentum sports coach UK would like to encourage nominations for female coaches in all categories.

Ensuring female coaches are properly recognised for their achievements will provide role models for young women and girls who may be considering a career in coaching, as well as encourage greater participation in sport.

Tony Byrne, CEO of sports coach UK, said: “At sports coach UK we recognise the significance and impact of having excellent women coaches who can act as role models to attract more women into coaching. The UK Coaching Awards is an excellent vehicle to raise their profile and we hope to attract a wide range of female nominations across the different awards categories.”

Helen Grant, Minister for Sport and Tourism, said: “I’m delighted that the UK Coaching Awards are seeking to recognise female coaches. Coaches inspire sportspeople at all levels and are the unsung heroes of our recent sporting success. I hope that athletes and clubs will nominate their coaches so we can thank them for their efforts.”

Nominations close on 26 September 2014, so make sure you nominate that special coach. They may be a volunteer working in your local community or a high-performance coach working with world champions.

The whole process is straightforward and can be completed online. Nomination forms and guidance notes can be downloaded from our website

Now in their 17th year, the UK Coaching Awards supported by Gillette give us the chance to recognise and reward the people whose work is so important to enjoyment and success in sport. This year’s event takes place at the City Chambers in Glasgow on 19 November.

Make sure your coach knows how much you appreciate their work – nominate them now!
