Coaching in the UK

Sports Coach UK Annual Review 2015-16

Fri, 08 Jul 2016

Nearly 100,000 coaches have changed their coaching as a result of our products and services – this figure sums ups up another successful year for sports coach UK.

The 2015-16 annual review, released this month, gives an overview of what we have achieved over the previous year.

As the central agency for coaching, we want to transform lives and inspire an active nation by putting coaching at the heart of physical activity and sport. Whilst coaching is well known for its contribution to elite sport, it also helps promote physical well-being and has many wider benefits.

At a national level, we identify priority areas where coaching can contribute to sporting strategies. We support Governing Bodies, County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) and other organisations with impartial advice, encouraging them to develop coaching offers that meet their strategic objectives.

We also develop coach education materials to complement sport-specific programmes that align with public policy as well as working with further and higher education partners to provide analysis and research into best practice for all coaching. All of this is just the start, the achievements inside this review begin to put together a complete picture of our work.

Gillian Wilmot, Chair of Sports Coach UK said:
"This Review only scratches the surface of what the organisation has achieved… Throughout the year, we have again worked closely with a range of partners, contributing to the government’s new strategy for sport and Sport England’s Coaching Plan."
