sports coach UK welcomes UK Sport’s announcement that Sir David Brailsford and Jürgen Grobler OBE have been inducted as first Honorary Fellows to UK Sport’s new Coaching Fellowship.

The UK’s national coaching agency also welcomes the announcement of UK Sport’s ‘Athlete to Coach’ initiative. The programme is designed to meet a demand from sports for help at the foundation level of the coaching pathway by supporting former world class athletes, identified by their sports, to accelerate their transition into careers as world-class coaches.

sports coach UK CEO Tony Byrne said: “These announcements underline UK Sport’s commitment to Excellent coaching, every time for everyone – a maxim that underlies all our work.

“Sir David Brailsford and Jürgen Grobler are two of the UK’s most recognised coaches and the respect they command in the sporting and non-sporting world will be invaluable in championing the coaching profession and supporting the development of British coaches.”

Dr Byrne added:  “The ‘Athlete to Coach’ programme will provide a structured route for elite athletes to make the move into coaching and enhances the coach-development pathway that includes the foundation programmes delivered by ourselves, and UK Sport’s Elite Coaching Apprenticeship Programme and Elite Programme.”
