Coaching in the UK

UKCC Level 4 Conference

Thu, 10 Mar 2016

From March 8-9 and in conjunction with Edinburgh University, sports coach UK held the third UKCC Level 4 conference in the stunning Playfair Library Hall.

The inspiring venue was a fitting location to bring together governing body lead personnel and higher education institutions to network, share best practice, exchange views and participate in CPD.

This year’s theme was Global Coaching and practices were shared from a number of countries.

Dr. Kristen Dieffenbach, President of the National Council for the Accreditation of Coach Education (NCACE) and lecturer at the University of North Carolina flew in especially for her day one keynote on Coaching and Coach Education in the US. Whilst Professor Jurgen Beckmann from the Technical University of Munich in Bavaria gave a keynote on day two regarding Talent Development in German footballers.

On day one workshops ran both in the morning and afternoon offering delegates the opportunity to attend two different sessions which included presentations from the University of Edinburgh, the RFU and Hartpury University.

The conference was well attended and concluded with a panel session that had five subject matter experts discuss their vision for Coach Education in 2021.

Sarah Collings, sports coach UK Coach Education Advisor said:

"The 3rd UKCC Level 4 conference came to a close with excitement as we looked to the future of coach and coach education in the UK. The global theme was a fantastic chance to learn from other countries, and what was very evident was just how far we have come with high performing coach education in the UK.  We attracted more governing bodies and higher education institutes than ever before and many new links and partnerships were created. My thanks are extended to the University or Edinburgh and all the speakers who made this event possible."
