What makes a top sports coach? New BBC Series

Thu, 08 May 2014

We know that most sports coaches gather further knowledge in a variety of ways, and this welcome new radio series should provide a great deal of valuable learning.

The Managers has been produced in partnership with The Open University and is broadcast on the BBC World Service. It hears from a group of leading sports coaches who talk about the methods, motivations and inspirations they use to get the most out of their teams and performers.

Created by the OpenLearn team, the series consists of a set of interviews with international coaches from a range of sports including tennis, swimming and football. The series started on Saturday 10 May at 18.06 GMT on the BBC World Service (19.06 BST in the UK). It featured top tennis coach Sven Groeneveld who has helped players such as Monica Seles, Mary Pierce, Michael Stich, Esther Vergeer, Greg Rusedski, Caroline Wosniacki and currently Maria Sharapova to win dozens of grand slams and other tour titles.
