It’s a rollover! Coaching Hero awards initiative to be extended into the new year

UK Coaching has announced today (28 October) that its UK Coaching Heroes awards will be extended into 2021.

This means that there’ll be a second chance to recognise coaches who have been making such a huge difference to the health and happiness of the nation by delivering sport and physical activity sessions during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Alongside the UK Coaching Awards 2020, these new awards are nominated and voted for by the British public to recognise coaches, who have made considerable differences to others despite the adversity and restrictions the country faced after it went into lockdown in March.

As the situation is still very much ongoing, with restrictive measures in place across many parts of the country, UK Coaching has decided to extended the UK Coaching Hero awards into 2021 and, therefore, will not be shortlisting or opening a public vote this year to coincide with the UK Coaching Awards on the 3 December.

UK Coaching’s Director of Coaching Emma Atkins, said:

We would like to thank all of those who recognised #GreatCoaching and submitted a nomination for your UK Coaching Hero. We received hundreds of nominations from across the UK and are looking forward to sharing the amazing coaching stories next year.

“This decision has not been taken lightly but the reality of the situation is, as a global community, we are still managing the virus and we are continuing to see great coaches playing their part in supporting the nation, keeping us healthy and happy both mentally and physically. So, we want to give the public another chance to nominate their coaches for the selfless work they do.

“We hope to be able open the public vote in the new year and look forward to awarding our Coaching Heroes at the UK Coaching Conference in the summer of 2021.”

A second nominations period will now open in the new year. Once that closes, all nominations will be reviewed and shortlisted entries will be put forward for a public vote.

Please be assured that entries submitted in the first nomination period have been received and will be included in the shortlisting process next year.

More information and details on how to nominate again in 2021 will be published on ukcoaching.org/coachingawards.
