Online inclusion training opportunities now available

Activity Alliance and UK Coaching launch a new online learning classroom as part of their joint initiative - Inclusive Activity Programme. The new training will support sports coaches, community leaders and healthcare professionals to make physical activity inclusive and accessible to disabled people.

Since June 2018, the Inclusive Activity Programme has provided specialist training to organisations and individuals who work with and support disabled people. The three-hour practical workshop equips people with the confidence and skills to engage disabled people and people with long-term health conditions effectively in physical activity.

Sadly, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all face-to-face workshop delivery of the Inclusive Activity Programme has been stopped until further notice. In response, Activity Alliance and UK Coaching have developed a new Inclusive Activity Programme online classroom so you can continue to learn about inclusive delivery and develop your skills.

Live online classrooms

The new online classrooms offer a live and interactive learning experience. Similar to the Inclusive Activity Programme face-to-face workshops, each online session will be led by one of our expert inclusion tutors. You will learn about the key principles of delivering inclusive activities and how to make your activities fun and enjoyable for everyone!

During the class you will:

  • Understand how to make sessions more inclusive and how to adapt activities using the STEP tool and Activity Inclusion Model.
  • Learn about how you can support disabled people to be more active by embedding Activity Aliiance's Ten Principles in your work.
  • Access additional resources to support your sessions and learn about further training opportunities.

Kat Southwell, Head of Programmes at Activity Alliance, said:

Earlier this year, life and work for all of us changed, as the coronavirus pandemic swept across the world. It required us to rethink and change delivery of the Inclusive Activity Programme. With UK Coaching’s support we are now able to continue offering this high quality inclusion training to organisations and individuals in a new way.

“The new online classroom offers a blended learning approach. In the future, we hope that many of our online learners will attend one of our face-to-face workshops once it is safe to do so. Until then, I encourage anyone wanting to improve skills in delivering inclusive activities to sign up for an Inclusive Activity Programme online classroom.”

Heather Douglas, Policy Manager at UK Coaching, said:

We are proud of our partnership with Activity Alliance and the work that has already been done to help coaches, community leaders and health and care professionals to engage disabled people more effectively in physical activity. By offering the Inclusive Activity Programme workshop as an online classroom, we can continue to provide this training, despite the limitations posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The new classrooms provide a flexible way of learning, whilst still allowing an interactive learning environment where peers can share better practice and learn from other people. We are also delighted to have additional funding support from Sport England’s National Lottery fund. It means we can offer these classrooms at a discounted rate of £15 per person, which we hope will encourage even more people to take part.”
