UK Athletics' Donna Fraser to speak at Derby research conference

Four-time Olympian Donna Fraser is the final keynote speaker to be announced by UK Coaching for their upcoming research conference.

The UK Athletics Equality, Diversity and Engagement Lead will be heading to Derby County Football Club on the 26 February to deliver her talk alongside fellow keynote speakers Dr Steve Ingham of Supporting Champions and Edel Quin of University of Chichester and Safe in Dance International.

Fraser has developed a wealth of experience within the field of equality and diversity communications, having been forced to retire from athletics in 2009 because of a breast cancer diagnosis.  Between 2011-2015, Donna held the position of president of the South of England Athletics Association, while from 2013-2015 she also undertook the role of chair of the BAME Network (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) at EDF Energy. In December of 2015 Donna became vice president of UK Athletics' Members Council for a four-year term.

In her current role at UK Athletics, Fraser helps to embed a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion into the organisation.

Fraser, said:

I’m really excited to be speaking at UK Coaching’s research conference and sharing my experience of great coaching with delegates. I don’t want to give too much away, but my talk will cover my athletics career and the coaches who maximised my potential through their ‘impossible is nothing’ approach.

“As a former Olympian, I understand first-hand the power coaching has to change lives. I hope to impart a bit of that insight so that coaches and researchers alike can go on to develop and improve coaching practice.”

UK Coaching's Research Manager Dr Lisa Whitaker, said:

“We are really pleased that Donna will be joining us in February alongside Steve and Edel.

"It will be a great day of applied coaching research around the theme of 'Maximising Potential through Coaching' and I’m really looking forward to hearing the latest insight on great coaching and how to build positive relationships to help people be the best they can be.

"As part of the conference, delegates will also have the opportunity to maximise their own potential by developing their skills as part of our 'Time for You' sessions.”

This will be UK Coaching’s third research conference, which aims to bridge the gap between research and practice by enabling researchers and practitioners to come together to learn, share and collaborate.

Tickets are still available at the early bird rate of £125 until the 17 January.
