UK Coaching welcomes 'Winter Survival Package'

UK Coaching welcomes the Government’s announcement of a £300million Winter Survival Package designed to protect the immediate futures of major spectator sports in England.

The fund will support sports, from national governing bodies through to clubs, who have been impacted by the coronavirus restrictions and ensure that the sports, and communities they provide for, continue to survive and thrive.

Sport England will be distributing the funding, which will largely consist of loans and grants.

Reacting to yesterday’s announcement, UK Coaching’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Gannon, said:

The announcement is great news for spectator sports, many of whom play a major role in keeping the nation active and bringing communities together. For the coaches who work in these sports, this gives some reassurance that they will be here to help reunite players and communities when play returns.

“Sports clubs and their coaches are fundamental to communities and I hope that as much of the funding can be put towards the grassroots to allow coaches to continue benefitting the health and well-being of their participants.”

The devolved governments have also received funding and will decide how best to use their additional support.
