Well-being the topic du jour at coaching research conference

Delegates attending UK Coaching’s Applied Coaching Research Conference – taking place at Derby County Football Club on the 19 February – can now expect to be stimulated by a 30-minute panel discussion on coach well-being.

Sitting on the panel will be Dr Pippa Grange – a sports psychologist, who has worked with athletes and leaders in elite sport across the world for over 18 years; Melanie Timberlake – UK Coaching's Disability Coach of the Year, who specialises in coaching participants with disabilities and mental health problems, and has first-hand experience of coaching’s potential to turn lives around; and Alan Currie – a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS and visiting professor at the University of Sunderland in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

UK Coaching’s own research demonstrates that there is a positive association between coaching and good mental health, as well as showing that over 70% of adults who receive coaching believe it improves their mental well-being.

Conference delegates will have their well-being looked after too with the addition of ‘time for you’ sessions included in this year’s programming.

This is the second edition of the organisation's research conference, which brings together coaching practitioners and researchers to ‘Shape the Future of Coaching’, discussing experience and well-being; contemporary learning solutions, and innovative coaching practice. UK Coaching’s patron, HRH The Princess Royal is expected to be the guest of honour and Tony Strudwick – one of the UK’s leading figures in sport science and head of performance at the Football Association of Wales – will be delivering the morning’s key note speech.
