Despite the continued growth and visibility of women’s sport – epitomised most clearly in the development of women’s football – research has shown girls spend only 25 minutes a day doing sports activities, whereas their male peers spend around 40 minutes on the same.
Add to that the ongoing debates around second facilities, prize money and media coverage and it’s no wonder that a conference at Staffordshire University in 2018 took two days to look at issues affecting women in sport, from recreational athletes to professionals.
