Encouraging Physical Activity in the Great Outdoors

Level 3 Advanced Instructor and Sports Lecturer Mark Christie introduces the concept of a ‘Natural Health Service’, with outdoor activities that benefit the mind, body and soul

Being in lockdown for a few months allowed for deeper reflection and consideration of the things that matter most to us. In some ways, we have benefited from a reduced level of stress within our lives, such as is caused, for example, by the daily commute to work. 

There has also been the potential for the renewal of our connection with the world around us – the Natural Health Service.

Nature has been noticed reclaiming lost ground, with many people citing more frequent encounters with hedgehogs, stoats and squirrels, while being more tuned in to hearing birdsong, and noticing the amazing insect life we have. This response to nature has, for some people, always been an important part of their lives, but for many others it has been somewhat suppressed by human influences that continue to encroach on our everyday existence.
