I often hear from coaches that there is nothing worse than a player, athlete or participant that won’t listen!
I understand this can be frustrating, and that is why I always seek clarity from the coach on whether the problem is A: the player doesn’t listen, or, B: they don’t understand?
When I hear ‘the player won’t listen’, I also feel like the coach is suggesting the problem lies with the player! I’d agree that this may be the case occasionally but, as coaches, we need to take responsibility in this situation.
One of our key skills as a coach needs to be communication, and that requires the ability to diagnose any communication problems correctly.
