Coaching Female Athletes to Benefit Female Athletes: Injury Occurrence

Injury data highlights that female participants across all levels of sport are at a much higher risk of sustaining a sports-related injury when compared to male participants. Strength and conditioning coaches can play a fundamental role in reducing the risk of injury.

Research has showed that female footballers are two times more likely to suffer an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The consequences of this increased risk of injury are thought to be catastrophic to women and their participation in physical activity and sport, linking to increased dropout rates and time away (lost) from training, activity, and competition.
