Having a child is one of the toughest journeys in life. Through all stages, challenges are thrown your way. For many women wanting to desperately return to activity in some form – and achieve that precious 'me time' – their own mental health and sanity is one of the biggest challenges.
As a Musculoskeletal and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist specialising in postnatal assessments, I see so many women who fit into that group.
Postnatal women can be vulnerable, both physically and mentally as their bodies have had so much demand placed on them by pregnancy, by the birth, and by changes in hormones. A lot of them may have a negative body image, with some women wanting to ‘snap back’ to their pre-pregnancy weight, feeling flabby, tired and emotional.
