Females Rapport Building and Communicating

Creating an Environment for Conversations About the Menstrual Cycle

Research Assistant at the Welsh Institute of Performance Science Natalie Brown shares how coaches and organisations can create an environment where discussions to support female participants during their menstrual cycles are the norm

There are different ways that females can manage their menstrual cycle symptoms. It’s important for you to start the conversation and create an open and supportive environment for female participants in which the menstrual cycle is a normal and regularly discussed topic.

It’s important to provide information to female participants to help them increase their self-awareness and understanding of the menstrual cycle in sport.

Increasing your knowledge through conversations with other coaches can be helpful; every female is individual and will have their own unique symptoms, experiences and ways of coping. It is important to keep learning from everyone’s circumstances.
