There is a growing movement around the use of sport for personal development and transformational change. And the life-altering and life-giving potential of coached physical activity sessions is perhaps most strikingly apparent in the criminal justice system.
Professor Rosie Meek is a leading authority on the positive benefits that sport-based programmes can have on offenders’ health, employability, personal development and empowerment, and the knock-on effect this can have on lowering reoffending rates.
Having been commissioned to undertake a review of sport in prisons by the Ministry of Justice, Professor Meek has seen the far-reaching advantages first hand, and presented her insight and recommendations in a workshop at the 2019 UK Coaching Conference.
