How Medical Professionals Can Help Develop Future Champions

Physiotherapist with Regeneration Physiotherapy group Jay Milomo shares his thoughts on developing champions from a medical professional perspective

Injuries can be inevitable, but by supporting the people you coach effectively, you can reduce their likelihood.

You must accept that most participants will pick up injuries throughout their time working with you.

Support is key, as is being realistic: pushing them through minor injuries for the sake of an upcoming event or competition can result in the injury becoming more severe and that they can’t participate for longer.

Holistic development

Take a holistic approach.

The best athletes are developed in multiple areas. If all your athletes had their own Top Trumps card, how would they score?

Think beyond the technical, tactical, and physical qualities of your sport.
