It’s important to actively manage challenging situations both together with the people you coach and individually to help move towards the White Zone. Moving towards the White Zone after a challenging situation can allow for growth and greater understanding to occur between two people.
Alternatively, a challenging situation that was not managed properly can lead people to the Black Zone, where feelings of hurt, anger, and sadness can occur, which may ultimately lead to the termination of a relationship or an athlete leaving a programme.
It’s important to not only be able to manage the performance of your athletes, but also the interpersonal conflicts and challenges that arise when dealing with people.
