VIPs in the sporting world sound like they should be the gold medallists or the world champions who receive invites to all the big award shows and a place on Strictly Come Dancing. That’s not actually the case. There are lots of people who could be described as Very Intelligent Perfectionists.
This can even include coaches!
VIPs are simply people who are highly intelligent and who have perfectionist traits that can make it difficult for them to be satisfied with how well they’re doing.
While VIP participants and coaches can do incredibly well, they may experience anxiety and poor well-being due to the way that their intelligence and perfectionism interact in a performance-driven, continually measured environment like sport.
Some VIPs may be too humble to recognise their own intelligence or may see themselves as a perfectionist in only a few areas. It’s important to note that a participant may not be a perfectionist across the board, but if they are when it comes to their sport, it’s vital to recognise this to help them perform at their best.
