Informed by scientific evidence on motor learning and extensive practical experience, the Athletic Skills Model (ASM) adopts a holistic approach in which the body and mind are united, and movement is central. Movement should be enjoyable, versatile, and varied for people of all ages and abilities.
Ultimately, the ASM’s main purpose is to develop adaptable and versatile movers by guiding the design of versatile movement programmes.
The design and implementation of versatile yet structured movement programmes are based on the following:
- Exploiting transfer: Transfer of learning.
- The concentric approach: ASM Building Blocks (Basic Movement Skills, Coordinative Abilities and Conditions of Movement).
- Creating challenging environments.
Before considering those three aims, it’s important to develop an understanding of the ASM Development Framework as a whole.
