The Importance of Quality Coaching Conversations in Anti-doping

Chris Chapman explores the value of the coach-athlete relationship and finding the time to have conversations with your athletes to support them to make better-informed decisions and choices

There will be frequent opportunities within your coaching environment to have meaningful conversations with your athletes. These will help you establish a quality coach-athlete relationship – which lies at the heart of great coaching.

Talking about your philosophy, values and beliefs, along with those of your participants, creates an ideal opportunity to introduce the topic of anti-doping.

There will be times when your participants will be at a low point, at a crossroads or faced with having to make key decisions. You know your participants better than anyone. A conversation, a listening ear, will help them make informed decisions rather than rash ones.
