No. A blood test isn’t needed. The diagnosis of the menopause is a clinical diagnosis, which takes into account an individual’s age and symptoms. A blood test, however, may be needed to diagnose early menopause (under the age of 40) or if there are unusual symptoms that need investigating.

Yes! You can have regular or irregular periods in the perimenopause stage. A woman has reached menopause when she hasn’t had a period for one year or two years after turning 50.
