Using Challenge Cards to Develop You and the Participants in Your Sessions

Canoeing coach Craig Morris and rugby coach Russell Earnshaw share their experiences and thoughts on creating a winning hand of cards to help people ‘grow themselves’

Challenge cards are designed to help you think more critically about coaching and perhaps to disrupt your thinking around what is possible. If learning is non-linear, messy and sticky, the coaching environment should reflect this by offering choice, problem-solving/problem setting opportunities and autonomy for the participants, whilst allowing coaches to be themselves (whilst always aiming to add a little more skill).
