In her career as an elite international sprinter, Laura Turner felt as if she didn’t need to have a high-achieving female role model. But now, as an athletics coach, she has a very different perspective – and recognises that she can use her position as a coach to make a difference.
With a broader view of sport in her sights, and the determination to see more women achieve their dreams, Laura thinks it is vital for there to be more positive female role models for other women in sport – and for women to be seen in all parts of the sporting sector.
“I have never personally felt like I have struggled or been discriminated against because I’m female,” Laura says, “but the further I go in my coaching career the more I realise how important it is for me to be a positive female role model for other females in the sport.”
