As the coronavirus lockdown kicked in globally, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee called time on their New Mexico training camp, boarded a plane home and relocated their training bases to their respective Yorkshire homes.
Even with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games postponed, that training goes on unabated. The architect of their respective regimens is Ian Mitchell, who took over from his coaching mentor and the Brownlees’ long-time coach Malcolm Brown at the end of 2017.
And the lockdown has not been without its challenges for coach and athletes alike.
“It’s strange as when they’re home we see each other daily, and I’m just a 10-minute drive from them,” said Ian.
“But there’s obviously strict rules to adhere to.”
