Openness of Conversations about the Menstrual Cycle

Starting a conversation with a female athlete about the menstrual cycle can sometimes be uncomfortable

The visual provides you with simple messages to start your conversation.

Clarity of message: consider sharing an observation of changes in training, performance or behaviour, for example…

Evidence: share facts and knowledge, avoiding myths!

Really listen: to the athlete’s experience; everyone’s experience will be unique.

Support: what next? Any actions? Share these with the individual so they are aware of the support you are providing.

Welsh Institute of Performance Science’s Natalie Brown shares her experience and insight on how to successfully start the conversation.
