Coaches observe, analyse and make decisions before considering their interventions and coach behaviours. This could be to ‘do nothing’ and continue to observe, adjust the practice design, provide further guidance and information, or give feedback to an individual or group.
In this video, a coach shares their observations, thoughts, communication, and interactions with participants and other staff. The video is not edited: it was recorded live, and we are appreciative that Stuart allowed us an insight into his practice.
The video introduces the context of the session, and Stuart explains the purpose and setting within the phase and shares a little about the participants and group. The activity follows the warm-up, and a further ‘contact’ activity takes place after the video session.
The coach combines the principles of ‘think aloud’, talking to themselves about what they are seeing and the decisions they may make, and interactions with individuals (coaches and participants) and the group together.
