Coaching For All Research and Development Programme
A range of reports, videos, and a downloadable toolkit developed as part of the Coaching For All research and development programme. The programme was designed to increase the understanding of the underrepresentation in paid roles of Black and Asian coaches, as well as refugee coaches and coaches from ethnic minorities

Funded by Sport England, delivered by Sporting Communities, and supported by UK Coaching, Sporting Equals and Loughborough University, the year-long training programme has supported aspiring ethnically diverse coaches from both Stoke-on-Trent and Derby to share their experiences, learn from top coaches and gain the confidence and qualifications to achieve their coaching aims.
The landscape of coaching is changing to meet demand, with emphasis being placed on the experience of being coached and ensuring that a lifelong habit of participating is established from an early age.
Sport can be inspirational, fun and challenging and is an increasingly necessary requirement to ensuring that we encourage a healthy and physically fit population.
Coaches play a critical role and form part of the key fabric of the community.
The desire to be a sports coach often comes from:
- an emotional attachment to sport
- family involvement in a sport
- a desire to help others
- a personal enjoyment of physical activity
- wanting to be involved in an activity.

37% of people from Black, Asian, ethnic minority and refugee communities take part in sport" but only "5% of people receiving a coaching qualification each year are from a Black, Asian, ethnic minority or refugee background.
