Activity Leadership
Supporting people. Strengthening experiences.
Coaching skills aren’t just for coaches. Across sport and physical activity, many people use coaching principles every day to lead, inspire and support others.
What Is Activity Leadership?
When we talk about activity leadership, we mean anyone who plans, leads or supports physical activity.
Many people leading activity do not identify as coaches. They may be volunteers, assistants, leaders or facilitators, often working with limited training or support.
For organisations, this can create challenges such as:
- Inconsistent standards across different roles and settings
- Variable confidence when leading sessions or supporting participants
- Unclear expectations around responsibility, safety and behaviour
- Pressure on volunteers and informal leaders without proportionate support
We focus on behaviour, responsibility and impact. Activity leadership is about how your people create environments where everyone can take part safely and confidently.
Activity Leadership Support We Provide
We support organisations to develop confident activity leaders through practical learning that recognises the diversity of roles and levels of experience.
We provide support through:
- Workshops and facilitated learning designed for interactive, real‑world application
- Courses and eLearning that build understanding and confidence at the right level
- Qualifications and recognised learning where appropriate
- Resources that help activity leaders reflect on and adapt their practice
Our aim is to help organisations create a shared foundation of leadership skills across a wide range of roles.
System-wide support
Put simply, we support any organisations working with people leading or supporting activity, including:
- Clubs and community organisations
- Charities and social impact organisations
- Active Partnerships and local systems
- Education and training providers
- Schools and youth programmes
- Leisure and activity operators
If your organisation relies on volunteers, leaders or non‑traditional coaching roles, we can help.
