Funded support for organisations

Collective action. Lasting change.

UK Coaching is the national charity for sports and physical activity coaching. Through fundraising, we work on behalf of the coaching sector to strengthen the systems, capability and conditions that allow great coaching to thrive.

Great coaching takes a holistic, personcentred approach. It develops a lifelong love of movement, supports positive relationships, promotes growth, and prioritises wellbeing. Great coaching builds autonomy and inspires positive change linked to individual motivations and goals.

Where collective action strengthens the system

Funded support focuses on the areas where collective action delivers more than individual effort — reducing duplication, strengthening coaching environments and addressing inequities across the system. These are challenges that are difficult to tackle alone.

By generating income from multiple sources and reinvesting it back into the system, funded work helps extend the reach and impact of support available to you, your coaches and the communities you serve.

What funded support enables for you

Funded support helps you succeed in a complex and evolving coaching landscape — while staying focused on positive, sustainable experiences for coaches and the coach development workforce.

We act as a trusted system partner, bringing organisations together and enabling great coaching across communities.

Our funded role enables UK Coaching to act as a trusted system partner – generating and reinvesting income, sharing insight, embedding effective approaches and influencing policy so organisations are better supported across different contexts.

By holding common frameworks, language and insight on your behalf, funded support helps the system move forward together rather than in parallel. This creates more access to support, with less duplication and burden for your organisation.

Our strategic intent

UK Coaching’s funded work follows a clear purpose: to strengthen the coaching system in ways that raise quality, reduce inequality and improve sustainability – without increasing burden on organisations or coaches.

We prioritise work that:

  • Improves experiences and outcomes for coaches
  • Raises standards while widening access and opportunity
  • Builds safe, inclusive and sustainable coaching systems

Funded support you can access

You can access funded support in different ways, depending on your organisation's context, scale and needs.

Workforce quality, learning and impact consultancy

If you are responsible for learning, workforce development or quality assurance, funded consultancy can help you modernise learning, assessment and delivery across sport, education and youth development settings.

    • Clarifying expectations: Align learning, assessment and quality standards.
    • Improving consistency: Add support with delivery, tutoring and assessment across contexts.
    • Building capability: Develop workforce confidence through guidance and shared standards.
    • Embedding inclusion: Design learning that is accessible, inclusive and evaluative.
    • Strengthening evaluation: Introduce proportionate monitoring and theory of change where appropriate.

Where it adds value, theory of change can help you define challenges, outcomes and activities, creating a strong foundation for evaluation and improvement.

Advice, guidance and sector insight

Funded support gives you access to advice, guidance and insight to help you navigate change and make informed decisions about your coaching workforce.

This includes:

    • Practical advice: Group support on learning, development, accessibility and professional standards.
    • Insight and evidence: Coaching research, commissioned studies and applied case studies.
    • Sector connection: Access to national insight and contributions to partner events and forums.

Reducing duplication and strengthening shared foundations

Our focus is simple: less duplication, more support for coaches.

Across the coaching system, organisations often face similar challenges: developing frameworks, repeating learning requirements or responding to the same policy changes independently. This creates unnecessary burden and limits collective progress.

Funded support helps reduce this friction by holding shared foundations on your behalf. Common frameworks, language and guidance are developed and maintained, alongside open access to insight and data. Supported alignment across learning design, quality and recognition means you don't have to start from scratch.

By reducing repeated effort in areas such as safeguarding, core CPD and digital learning, you can focus on what matters most: positive, high‑quality coaching experiences.

Policy navigation

Policy insight and system navigation

Funded support helps you keep pace with change. Developments across sport, education, skills, health and safeguarding are tracked and translated into practical insight you can use.

This helps you understand policy changes affecting coaching and workforce development. This unlocks the ability to navigate system complexity with greater confidence.

You also benefit from system‑level translation between organisations, funders and partners, reducing ambiguity and improving alignment.

Campaigns and national awareness

We lead national campaigns that raise the profile of coaching and mobilise collective action across the system.

UK Coaching Week

UK Coaching Week is our flagship national campaign. It creates national consistency and visibility by:

  • Celebrating the impact of coaches at all levels
  • Sharing practical coaching insight and stories
  • Promoting consistent messages about what great coaching looks like
  • Engaging the public beyond performance outcomes

Each year, we provide themes, resources and digital content that organisations can easily align to and amplify.

Funded programmes

We lead and contribute to funded programmes where national coordination delivers greater impact.

Buddle — UK Coaching delivers workshop learning as part of Buddle, Sport England's National Lottery‑funded programme supporting community clubs and organisations. We focus on inclusion, governance, volunteering, financial sustainability and community engagement.

Play Their WayPlay Their Way is a funded national movement delivered by UK Coaching in partnership with the Children's Coaching Collaborative and funded by The National Lottery via Sport England. It champions child‑first coaching based on voice, choice and journey.

Talent and performance — We deliver Sport England and UK Sport‑funded programmes that strengthen coaching capability and leadership across talent and performance pathways. This includes development programmes, targeted learning series and funded communities of practice.
