Enables learners to establish their individual coaching ethos and gain a fundamental understanding of the indispensable skills and knowledge that they need to coach.

Overview

 

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching is ideal for learners aspiring to become a coach.

It will give them the knowledge and the opportunity to establish an individual coaching ethos, and to gain a fundamental understanding of the skills needed to coach, giving them the practical and theoretical knowledge to plan, deliver and review a series of linked and progressive coaching sessions in their selected sport.

Importantly, this qualification can be transferred between sports.

If your learner is over the age of 18, this qualification will enable them to coach independently or as part of a larger coaching team. If they are under the age of 18, this qualification will enable them to coach as part of a larger coaching team.

On completion, learners will receive the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching and a separate recognition for their chosen sport. Where their selected sport isn't available, they will receive recognition in sport and physical activity.

 

This qualification is designed for learners looking to develop their knowledge and skills in order to be able to independently coach.

It will enable you to seek employment in appropriate paid or voluntary coaching roles within sports and physical activity environments.

Once completed learners may wish to undertake the following qualifications to further develop their understanding in this area:

  • 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Education and Training
  • 1st4sport Level 3 Diploma in Delivering Physical Education School Sports
  • 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Multi-Skill Development in Sport


Prior to registration, you must:

  • be accurately identified (this involves providing some identifying information about yourself, such as your passport or driving licence, so that the recognised centre can verify that you are the person who has registered for the qualification)
  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing). If you have any additional support requirements to help you through this qualification, please speak to the Recognised Centre* delivering your course.

*A recognised centre is an organisation who is accredited by 1st4sport to deliver qualifications.


To obtain the qualification, you must attend your training and have assessed evidence or demonstrated:

  • an understanding of the roles and responsibilities to support a safe and inclusive coaching
    environment
  • an understanding of how to plan, adapt, deliver and evaluate safe and inclusive coaching programmes and sessions to support personalised learning design and participant needs
  • recognising the needs of individual participants and ways to support the participant experience and engagement within their coaching practice
  • an understanding of how to communicate with stakeholders to develop professional relationships and within and outside the coaching environment
  • an awareness of the coach's responsibilities towards themselves and others when safeguarding participants

To obtain the qualification, you must successfully complete all mandatory components.

This will involve creating a portfolio of evidence and through practical demonstrations / assignments.
