Prepares learners to assess an incident, recognise the signs and symptoms of injury and illness and assist a casualty in a safe and effective manner
Overview
The skills and knowledge will qualify your learners to fulfil the role of an emergency first-aider in the workplace, who can be relied upon to perform a variety of emergency first-aid tasks, including:
- identifying when and how to administer cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
- who has external bleeding
- who is suffering from shock
- who has small cuts, grazes, bruises or splinters
- who has minor burns and scalds.
This is a regulated Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and is supported by the HSE and meets the requirements of the HSE First Aid Regulations 1981. Note that learners must requalify every three years to maintain their status as an emergency first-aider.
The qualification is designed for individuals wishing to obtain a regulated qualification in First Aid at Work and be relied upon to perform emergency first aid in a work environment. For this reason, this qualification is available to all individuals over the age of 16.
Prior to registration, you must be:
- accurately identified (this involves providing some identifying information about yourself, such as your passport or driving licence, so that the recognised centre can verify that you are the person who has registered for the qualification)
- at least 16 years of age
- able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing). If you have any additional support requirements to help you through this qualification, please speak to the recognised centre* delivering your course.
*A recognised centre is an organisation who is accredited by 1st4sport to deliver qualifications.
Achievement of this qualification is through attendance on a course of training and assessment, 6 hours of which must be completed via face-to-face learning. A maximum of one hour can be achieved via an appropriate online learning module or pre-course learning.
