Overview
Provides your learners with the the opportunity to learn how to plan, deliver and evaluate long-term coaching programmes, either independently (if over the age of 18) or working as part of a larger coaching team.
The knowledge, ideas and practical skills your learners will develop will give them the confidence to take lead responsibility for annual training plans and prepare them for paid or voluntary work in a sport and physical activity setting - such as a sports club or holiday activity programme.
The qualification is recognised as the industry standard Level 3 qualification for coaching sport and physical activity by UK Coaching - the lead technical agency for the development of sports coaching in the UK.
This qualification is designed for learners who are seeking to develop their theoretical and contextual understanding of coaching and wish to develop their professional coaching practices to independently coach diverse populations of participants in a coaching environment. It is expected that learners have experience of delivering activity within a coaching, sport and/or physical activity environment prior to commencing the qualification.
Prior to registration, you must be:
- accurately identified (this involves providing some identifying information about yourself, such as your passport or driving licence, so that the recognised centre can verify that you are the person who has registered for the qualification)
- at least 17 years of age
- be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing). If you have any additional support requirements to help you through this qualification, please speak to the Recognised Centre* delivering your course.
*A recognised centre is an organisation who is accredited by 1st4sport to deliver qualifications.
To obtain the qualification, you must attend your training and have assessed evidence of:
- An understanding of the coaching sector and industry, legislation and regulatory requirements
- An understanding of the compositions of communities including: spaces, places, cultures, stakeholders, networks and organisations
- An understanding of the ways to influence behavioural change in sports and physical activities
- An understanding of an inclusive coaching environment and equality, diversity, and inclusivity within coaching environments
- Knowledge of the professional codes of conduct for coaches, ethical roles and responsibilities and safe practice
- An ability to evaluate your own coaching practice and adopt self-care strategies to support own coaching practice
- An understanding of communication methods and techniques to engage inclusively with others
