Develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become a sports coach in a performance environment

Overview

 

With the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Sports Coaching and Performance, you will learn how to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective sports coaching programmes.

This will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to become an effective sports coach in a performance environment.

You will also learn how to:

- apply nutrition to sports performance - support athletes through lifestyle changes - use technical and tactical skills to support athletes' performance.

The coaching units have been mapped against the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity's (CIMSPA's) Professional Standard for Coaches.

 

This qualification is designed for learners looking to support their development within the sports coaching sector working with high performing athletes.

Prior to registration, you must:

  • be accurately identified (this involves providing some identifying information about yourself, such as your passport or driving licence, so that the recognised centre can verify that you are the person who has registered for the qualification)
  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing). If you have any additional support requirements to help you through this qualification, please speak to the Recognised Centre* delivering your course.

*A recognised centre is an organisation who is accredited by 1st4sport to deliver qualifications.

To obtain the qualification, you must attend your training and have assessed evidence of:

  • An ability to produce nutrition plans in order to enhance performance in sport
  • An understanding of the role and responsibility of the programme coach
  • An understanding of the technical demands and skill requirements of an elite athlete’s role in sport
  • An understanding of the impact of stress, anxiety and arousal on participant performance in sport
  • An ability to analyse participants’ performance and stage of development; setting coaching programme goals
  • An ability to manage the implementation, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the coaching programme
  • An understanding of lifestyle factors that can affect sports performance
