Get into Coaching: Assistant Coach in Sport & Physical Activity

Take your first steps into coaching

Welcome to the start of your coaching journey. This course will help those supporting and assisting coaching in sport, exercise, health or leisure be confident in their ability to help run sport and physical activity sessions.

Through the Get into Coaching: Assistant Coach in Sport & Physical Activity eLearning course, you will learn the roles and responsibilities of an assistant coach and earn our digital badge.

Your online learning experience will be exciting, fun and engaging. You will undertake a series of realistic and challenging scenarios in a safe decision-making environment, giving you the opportunity to experiment, explore and reflect on the consequences of your decisions.

The eLearning course consists of:

  • three immersive and interactive modules, where you will support 'Coach Jay' in delivering safe and enjoyable experiences of sport and physical activity to his participants at the virtual UK Coaching Games
  • a quiz to test your understanding of the key concepts and ideas you will learn about 
  • helpful links to coaching tips, guides and conversations to strengthen your coaching knowledge.

Following the eLearning course, you should have the confidence, knowledge and skills to be able to:

  • demonstrate responsible, safe, fair and ethical practice at all times
  • prepare for a coaching session
  • help to deliver a coaching session
  • help to review the coaching session
  • deliver warm-ups and cool downs, sports skills and physical activity skills.

On successfully completing the eLearning course you will: 

  • be issued a UK Coaching Certificate, which can be used as evidence of successful course completion. If you wish to pursue an Assistant Coach qualification, this certificate may be used as evidence of prior learning.
  • earn our Get into Coaching: Assistant Coach in Sport & Physical Activity Digital Badge, which will display on your UKCoaching.org dashboard
  • be encouraged to continue your learning by exploring valuable coaching resources that we have carefully selected.
