Sudden Cardiac Arrest eLearning
60 minutes
CIMSPA CPD valid for 12 months
This free life-saving eLearning course – newly-refreshed as of May 2025 – is packed with scenario-based learning, practical information, and tips to help you respond quickly to a sudden cardiac arrest
Overview
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) could happen to anyone, at any time, with approximately 60,000 SCAs happening within the community every year in the UK. 12 each week are under the age of 35. Only 1 in 10 survive. If effective action is taken within the first minute, this can treble the chances of survival.
This eLearning, which is also part of our free life-saving digital learning Hub, will help you plan and respond appropriately to an SCA and incorporates:
- practical information and tips
- high quality immersive videos, including an interview with SCA survivor Fabrice Muamba (former professional footballer) and Martin Johnson CBE (former England rugby union captain and team manager)
- hands-on interactive learning
- an optional 60-second lifesaver challenge to put your knowledge and skills to the test.
It has been developed in collaboration with Resuscitation Council UK, St John Ambulance and The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust, and funded by Sport England.
After completing the course, you will be able to download your certificate of completion. The course has been awarded 1/2 a CPD point by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

What do other coaches think of the course?
Absolutely superb. In many online courses, it is difficult to get a real feel of what is being taught, but the videos on this one pricked the hairs on my arms!! Fantastic learning course – Thank you!”
This course was amazing, really. I am not just saying that—it was the best course for Sudden Cardiac Arrest that I have ever attended.
This is a brilliant training package… simple, clear, concise, and set at an appropriate level for people new to CPR and AED use. Sincere thanks to everyone involved in putting this together.
This course is pitched really well to engage and motivate people to do something really positive.
This course is fantastic and of true value. I served 21 years with the NHS Emergency Ambulance Service, was CMD (Cardiac Monitor Defibrillator) trained, and an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) Instructor with Her Majesty’s Prison Service. However, there was information on this training module I was unaware of; therefore, if I can learn, so can everyone.
I am really impressed with how relevant the stories are and how the use of CPR and AED is encouraged, without making it look like it would be difficult to do. Doing CPR and using an AED is easy, and this course shows that.
The course was straightforward and easily understood. I have done a Defib seminar, but this was better, simpler, and the key things were reinforced. I will be scared, but now feel I can do this.
What a great, simple, yet impactful course on how to handle [an emergency] situation. A piece of mandatory training for all coaches in my opinion. Well done to all.
I’m a nurse and ALS trained with my job. I have taken part in many CPR courses over the years, and this is the best by far.
I thought this course was fab and very informative. Loved the videos, the facts, interviews, role plays, and the interactive AED challenge and compression challenge.
A good course, well structured and easy to understand.
Well put together, with a good range of practical tips and interactive use.
