This workshop will raise your awareness of how to safeguard adults effectively, ensuring that you have the confidence required to recognise and respond effectively to safeguarding concerns.

Overview

Everyone deserves to enjoy participating in sport and physical activity in a safe, supportive environment. Attend this workshop to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to better support and safeguard adults, which is key to great coaching. Focusing on the key principles of safeguarding adults, this workshop offers an opportunity to share best practice from your own context, whether that be a studio or a field and everything in between, and to learn from others. Through interactive scenarios and discussions with people working in different activities and sports, you will have the opportunity to explore the consequences of decisions in a safe and supportive environment, helping to increase your confidence to deal with safeguarding issues effectively. You will also learn how to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, including how to report concerns when necessary. You will explore: 1. What great coaching practice looks like and how can you apply this to coaching, incorporating the key principles of safeguarding adults. 2. How you can recognise and respond to concerns about adults, including possible signs of abuse, lower-level concerns and poor practice. 3. How to report any concerns about adults, where appropriate.

You will explore:

Information for Learners

Attending the online classroom

Although you can access our online classroom using any mobile device, the best experience will be achieved by using a laptop or PC. Once booked, the link to your online classroom will be provided via a confirmation email you receive from UK Coaching.

You will need the following equipment:

  • Headset or a device with speakers.
  • Device with a microphone.
  • Ability to connect directly to your router (wifi access may drop out).

Safeguarding is a ‘Minimum Deployment Requirement' for many governing bodies of sport. The ‘Minimum Deployment Requirements’ are seen as the basic standards every coach needs to meet to carry out their role safely and effectively.

Find out more about deployment standards:

The online classroom can also be attended by all those responsible for organising adult’s sport (eg within governing bodies of sport, local authorities, sports and leisure centres, and sports clubs) and those who lead or deliver adult’s sport programmes (eg coaches, leaders, instructors, development officials, administrators, volunteers and parents).

Check with your governing body of sport for further information, and to ascertain whether or not attendance at a safeguarding workshop or online classroom is required before you commence coaching. Governing bodies of sport set their own standards for safeguarding training. The Ann Craft Trust’s recommendation is that anyone with regular responsibility for adults should ideally undertake tutor-led training.

Tutor-led training allows delegates to ask questions in a safe environment facilitated by a qualified safeguarding tutor. It also provides the opportunity to discuss specific safeguarding issues that arise during the training. eLearning training is available online. It is recommended to be completed at three-yearly intervals.

You will receive three months' access to a digital resource to guide you in your future coaching.

Packed full of practical guidance, it will help you to deal sensitively and effectively with any issues that arise.

Please note, this online classroom session is for over-18s only.
