Welfare Officer Training: Time to Listen (Online Classroom)

Learn about the responsibilities connected with being a Welfare Officer, the skills needed to excel in the role, and how you can ensure that you’re supporting and safeguarding children effectively

Developed in partnership with:

Every child deserves to enjoy playing sport and engaging in physical activity in a safe and supportive environment, where they feel heard, understood, and valued. On this online classroom, learn how you can support, empower, and safeguard children participating in sport and physical activity in your capacity as a welfare officer.

This interactive online classroom will give you an essential understanding of what is required of welfare officers that are responsible for managing and reporting concerns about children, and for putting into place procedures to safeguard children, ensuring that you have the practical knowledge required to take a child-focused approach and excel in the role.

You will also learn about the importance of building relationships and trust with the key people that you’ll be working with, essential to working with colleagues to safeguard children effectively.

Through interactive scenarios featuring people from different sports and activities, you will also practise your decision-making in a safe and supportive environment, enabling you to explore some possible consequences of your decisions. This will help to prepare you to act in similar scenarios as a welfare officer, giving you crucial confidence in your ability to act in each child’s best interest.

Book your place on the online classroom today to develop your skills and support your growth as a great child-focused welfare officer.

The course has been awarded 1.5 CPD points by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

You will learn:

  • what a welfare officer does
  • how a welfare officer works with others to create a child-centred environment
  • how the role of the welfare officer fits into the wider safeguarding environment
  • how safeguarding fits into the wider culture of your organisation
  • how to respond to and report concerns
  • how you can support your coaches to protect themselves.

Once you have registered for the online classroom, you will be given access to a checklist through your learner dashboard. Please complete this prior to attending.

Although you can access our online classroom using any mobile device, the best experience will be achieved by using a laptop or PC. Once booked, the link to your online classroom will be provided via a confirmation email you receive from UK Coaching.

You will need the following equipment:
