Why do I need to understand myself?

Learning more about yourself is part of growing as a person. When you know yourself, including your wants, needs, desires, habits, emotions and behaviours, you can become a better person and coach.

The first step is self-awareness: really understanding what motivates you, drives you forward, and holds you true to your 'North Star.' This is build upon your journey as a person and your experiences, all of which influences you as a coach and contributes to the development of your coaching philosophy.

This provides a foundation on which you can develop and grow, identifying areas of development and enabling you to see your true self.

Through reflection and practice, you can grow and understand how you act and react in situations and explore ways to manage and regulate your behaviours. This in turn will enable you to gain increased clarity of what you want to achieve.

With a better understanding of yourself, you can enhance your creative thinking, identify and solve problems, and make better decisions and choices, enabling you to more effectively lead and guide others and the teams/groups that you work with.

Below, discover the pillars of this theme to aid your understanding of the self. You'll also find UK Coaching Club membership details with which you can unlock access to the resources of the Coach Learning Framework.
