Our resources will help you celebrate every voice and teach you how to be a more inclusive coach by valuing each individual’s potential and contributions
Welcome to the Inclusion pillar of our Duty to Care Hub. Here, you’ll find an introduction to our learning resources on inclusion, as well as access to the Inclusion Knowledge Check – a tool designed to test your understanding of this crucial topic.

What do we mean by inclusion?
The resources available on our inclusion pillar explore a wide range of themes, including a deeper understanding of the terms ‘equality, equity and inclusion’, inclusive communication, creating an inclusive environment, inclusive legislation, LGBTQ+ inclusion, examples of inclusion initiatives, and strategies for delivering an inclusive coaching programme.
Inclusion is how you tailor delivery to different audiences and how you treat people to keep them involved. The terms diversity and inclusion are often – mistakenly – used interchangeably. However, they each have distinct meanings.
As a coach, inclusion involves ensuring that you engage, challenge, and address the different needs of all participants in your sessions.
People engage in sport and physical activity for various reasons, including keeping fit and healthy, promoting their mental well-being, having fun and enjoyment, gaining social benefits and mixing with friends, developing skills, competing, reducing stress, and boosting self-confidence.
By adopting an inclusive approach and integrating inclusive practices and strategies into your planning, delivery, and review process, you will ensure a happy group that feels included, motivated and valued. This means participants will return week after week, while also increasing the likelihood of attracting new members.
Additionally, fostering connections and building rapport through a person-centred approach enhances the overall experience, as participants benefit from the social interaction, sense of community, and personalised support that encourages long-term engagement and satisfaction.
